Nikola Koćalo, the owner of Papagaj — I met him when he showed me his first billboard. It read: We are closed on July 9th because of the Rolling Stones concert.

Of course, it isn't only about the Stones. A tongue stuck out can look like protest and rebellion. A matter of choice. I like to think that this is how we keep searching for taste. Something new, interesting, special, beautiful, authentic… And not only when it comes to food. It's a way of thinking. Even Einstein was photographed that way.

What does that have to do with Papagaj?

Papagaj is exactly like that. A place that, like rock'n'roll, you experience and feel in your stomach — through the food, the service and the atmosphere.

There is sea in the garden and a mountain in the yard. There is an architect-philosopher. There is a chef who is a poet. The staff are your friends, and the guests are always regulars. Because, once you come, you will keep coming back and repeating like a parrot: "I like it!"

Prices at Papagaj are the same all year round. No seasonal increases. The only thing you need for Papagaj is a rich spirit. And you should understand that our motto is: "No to bad taste!"

I remember my first visit to Papagaj. There was only one free chair. Enough for a coffee, but awkward if you wanted breakfast.

At that moment, the guest at the next table stood up and gallantly offered us — his table! Then calmly, as if nothing had happened, he returned to his place and went on reading the newspaper.

Popeye. Jimmy the Boat. He knows both the sea and Papagaj.

Guests here always ask for an extra table. But there is room for everyone.

Seen from the angle of life, nature, light and space — Papagaj is simply a good restaurant.

But when in the dark you listen to the sea murmuring, look at the stars scattered across the sky and drink wine with friends, you will realise that at Papagaj, as in life — you don't need anything, but too much is not possible either.

It's just a restaurant-lounge, but I like it!
